JoAnn Gaunt is excited to join K-State Extension as the new Barton County 4-H Youth Development Agent.

4-H has been part of JoAnn’s life for many years. She first participated as a member herself, and today she enjoys watching her own children experience the same opportunities to learn, grow, and find the things that excite them. Those experiences have shaped the way she views youth development. It is not about checking boxes or winning ribbons, but about helping young people discover what they’re capable of.

That same philosophy has guided JoAnn throughout her career as an educator. During more than 14 years in the classroom, she found that the most meaningful moments weren’t when students simply learned new information. They were moments when students realized they could do something they hadn’t believed they could do before. Whether that meant speaking in front of a crowd, solving a difficult problem, or trying something completely new, their confidence often began with one small success.

JoAnn holds a bachelor’s degree in Music and a master’s degree in Education from Fort Hays State University. She brings years of experience creating educational programs that are engaging, practical, and meaningful.

Outside of work, JoAnn and her husband are raising four children on their central Kansas farm. Their family enjoys caring for livestock and poultry, operating a small farm stand, and, of course, participating in 4-H together. Watching her children explore new projects, develop new skills, and gain confidence has given JoAnn an even deeper appreciation for the impact 4-H can have on young people and their families. Living and working in a rural community has strengthened her appreciation for the people who invest their time in helping young people succeed.

As Barton County’s 4-H Youth Development Agent, JoAnn looks forward to getting to know members, volunteers, and families across the county. She believes strong 4-H programs are built through curiosity, and a willingness to try something new. Her hope is that every young person who tries 4-H leaves believing they are more capable than they thought they were.
