I had the opportunity to sit down and share about Ellis County 4-H with one of the Japan chaperones. Aya is staying with one of our 4-H volunteers, Donna Maskus. She has been able to attend some county fairs that Donna has judged at. There she has learned about the dedication that the local 4-Her’s put into their fair exhibits. I shared with her that throughout the 4-H year, the youth have several opportunities to show off what they have learned, participate in 4-H Day and fairs or attend the achievement banquet to get recognized. Aya told me that she and 2 other chaperones are in charge of 30 youth that are staying all over Kansas for the next few weeks.
Isaac Moreno of the Big Creek Astros 4-H club has been busy in Japan, as part of the States’ 4-H International Exchange Program. Isaac will be spending 4 weeks with his host family, taking in and experiencing all that he can of Japan. He and his host brothers visited the Tokyo Skytree and went to a shrine called Asakusa. He has been kayaking and swimming with his host father and also has attended a swim club. Isaac attended school for a few days were he got to watch the brass band, participate in a cheer thing, and see all the clubs that they had. In calligraphy he learned how to wrote his name in Japanese. Isaac made scrambled eggs for his family, which they enjoyed.
