July started off with a bang for Barton County 4-H! A very warm week of July 6-10 saw livestock shows, project evaluation from Arts to Woodworking, time with friends, and lots of fun! 4-H members helped the Barton County Fair Association with their Family Game Nights, led songs and activities while we spent some time in the storm shelter, helped in the Food Stand, assisted Barton County Farm Bureau with their tractor pull, and served over 750 people for the 4-H BBQ fundraiser!

On Thursday of the fair, the Barton County Fair Association and Cottonwood Extension District partner with the Dougherty family and the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce to hold a Business Appreciation Breakfast. This is a fun event which invites the community to interact with 4-H members and see the exhibits. Each 4-H Club provides baskets of goodies for the door prizes.

4-H members who are 9 and older and receive a purple ribbon are eligible to participate at the Kansas State Fair in September. In addition to fair entries, this applies to those top placings for demonstrations, illustrated talks, and poetry/prose readings from Club Days which were held in March.
