April 2025
District Director Notes - Jay Harris
Spring has arrived in the Cottonwood District, and with it comes a season of renewal, growth, and opportunity. Warmer temperatures, longer days, and fresh energy in our communities make this an exciting time for K-State Research and Extension. As always, our team remains committed to delivering high-quality education and resources to help individuals, families, and businesses thrive.
Our agents have been busy developing and delivering a variety of programs tailored to the needs of our district. Whether it’s helping producers make informed decisions about forage and livestock health, guiding homeowners through gardening and lawn care, supporting youth in leadership and STEM initiatives, or providing critical resources for mental and family well-being, we are here to serve.
April also marks the beginning of several key agricultural and horticultural programs. As planting season gets underway, we encourage producers and home gardeners alike to reach out for research-based recommendations on soil health, pest management, and crop planning. Additionally, with unpredictable spring weather, now is a great time to review emergency preparedness plans for farms, businesses, and households.
Our 4-H and youth development efforts continue to thrive, with exciting opportunities for young people to engage in hands-on learning, develop leadership skills, and participate in local and regional events. We are especially looking forward to upcoming contests, club meetings, and summer program preparations that will provide meaningful experiences for youth in our district.
One of my priorities as District Director is ensuring that our agents and office professionals have the tools and support they need to succeed. Ongoing professional development, collaboration with K-State specialists, and strong local partnerships help us maintain the high-quality programming our communities expect. I’m incredibly proud of the dedication and expertise of our team, and I encourage you to take advantage of their knowledge and resources.
April is a great time to engage with the Cottonwood District and take advantage of the many programs and services available. Whether you’re interested in attending a workshop, volunteering with a local initiative, or simply seeking research-based information to improve your home or business, we’re here to help.
If you have ideas for programs or would like to learn more about how Extension can support you, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support of the Cottonwood District—we look forward to a productive and engaging spring season!
