The total number of educational places is a rolling total, and
we are confident that we will achieve our mission of creating
20,000 educational places by 2020. In 2015, we built several
schools, worked with teachers to improve their qualifications,
constructed toilet blocks, and installed clean drinking water
sources at schools whilst also providing thousands of exercise
books, textbooks and other educational resources. All of this
helps to make these schools great places to learn!

We achieved excellent pupil-teacher ratios in 2015, or number
of students per teacher. We’ve already exceeded our 2016 goal
of 46:1, which is the current average across Uganda (Source:
World Bank 2013) and will work with the schools to ensure
they maintain this, and provide children the highest quality
education possible.

Number of students provided with meals at school refers to those children enrolled in school who receive a minimum of one
meal per day. Providing meals at school helps students stay energized and focused to learn, and prevents them from travelling
large distances to return home for lunch each day. Anecdotal evidence indicates that children who walk home for lunch do not
return to school for the afternoon. We work with the local community to manage the student meals process including growing,
harvesting and preparing the food.
