FINDING THE
PERFECT
EXTENSION
METHOD
FOR YOU
There are a variety of ways to put in hair extensions,
but which one is best suited for you? We’ve sought
out the help of stylist Donshe Wainwright and
done some research to be able to provide you with
descriptions of the various methods. What type of
extension will work best for you depends on the
style you’re going for and what your natural hair is
like. Take a read of our definitions and see if that
clears up any of your questions!
Sew in
Sew in weaves are one of the most popular
methods of attaching hair extensions. The hair is
braided into cornrows and then the weft is sewn
in on top. This method is a great way to give your
natural hair a break from styling and treatment. It
also has one of the most natural appearances, and
doesn’t take very long to apply. Wainwright told us,
“for a person with natural hair it’s the best method,
that way they can hide their natural hair.”
Net Weaving
Net weaving is one of the best ways to get a weave
without stressing the natural hair. A net, or stocking
cap, is sewn onto cornrows at the edges of the
head and then the weft is sewn onto the net. The
effects of gravity mean that the weight of the hair
is equally distributed so the hair is less likely to
suffer from traction alopecia. It also works great
if you have thinner hair, as the net can be used
to fill holes where you otherwise wouldn’t have a
stable base. Wainwright also said that adding a net
generally makes the extensions more secure.
