Business Stop & reGrow: Taking Hair Loss Treatments to the Next Level H air loss is a common problem for almost everyone. It can be genetic, caused by health issues, it can also be stress related, or caused by hair extensions that were too much for the scalp to handle. The cure to baldness has been researched practically since baldness became an issue. There are numerous clinics who try to offer a cure; and many have tried tons of other options. Cover-ups, scalp massages, and DIYs are some of the go-to’s for many who experience hair loss. The failure or success of each treatment varies considerably person to person, making it hard to find any one perfect solution. That said, this month we’re taking a look at one company that has given many their hair success story, We spoke with Tracey Bowyer from Stop & reGrow to tell us more about their company and their founder, Dr. Robert Nettles. 1 . Tell us about the founder of Stop & reGrow Dr. Robert Nettles was predestined to be the inventor of the first treatment for androgenic alopecia that can support its success claim with a money back guarantee. His high school thesis project at age 17 was studying the genetic makeup of our DNA and its inheritance patterns. At age 21 when graduating from college, he noticed that his father was already bald and his older brother was showing the beginning signs of balding. This made Dr. Nettles concerned with maintaining his own hair, leading hair loss to become an active research project for him during medical school. 64 C O S M O B I Z M A G A Z I N E By the time he graduated from medical school, Dr. Nettles had discovered that DHT is the primary cause of hair loss. He also understood that the then current wonder-drug Rogaine didn’t really ‘work’ in terms of regrowing lost hair and at most could only delay the inevitable for a small percentage of users. By this time, both his older brothers had significant hair loss and his own hair had started thinning. After graduation, Dr. Nettles undertook a fellowship in ophthalmology, where he had the opportunity to witness prostaglandin medicines (Bimatoprost and Latanoprost) grow eyelashes 25% longer and thicker over only a short period of time. Originally studying as a hair transplant surgeon and working alongside pioneers of the FUE method of hair transplant, Dr. Nettles learned that while the best option available at the time, surgery, was also not a true solution for the hereditary hair loss that over time will eventually take more hair than is available to donate to replace it. His real breakthrough came when he identified that just as we now understand the good and bad types of cholesterol, so testosterone also has good and bad components and the ratio between them would lead to his ultimate discovery of precision medicine. At the age of 29, after suffering significant hair loss himself, Dr. Nettles began a regime of self-therapy that included injection of the various medicines into his own
