Feautre skincare: Bringing Kenyan Roots to Your Routine S ummer is here, and although you may not have reached your body goals, you sure can get poppin’ summer skin. What’s the first key? Switch out your winter regime for a summer one. Your skin can change in different climates and realizing what skin type you have for each season is crucial in getting perfect skin. Also, using the same products for your skin throughout the year could hurt more than help. Your skin can adapt to the products, not giving you the same results as once before. With all this said, here’s a new skincare line worth investing in. Not to mention, it’s a black-owned skincare brand and hangs alongside with Shea Moisture and Nubian Heritage in Sundial Brands. Nya- kio skincare originates with founder, Nyakio Kamoche Grieco’s Kenyan roots and Indian ingredients. With special attention from product to packaging, Nyakio produced a family brand supporting healthy skin for all races. Of course, CosmoBiz had the chance to test out the products and talk with the creator herself. Check out our super exclusive interview with Nyakio! From My Family to Yours: Skincare with Nyakio Kamoche Grieco Tell us a little bit about your childhood and how that influ- enced you into creating this brand today. I am a first generation American of Kenyan descent, born in NY, but raised in Oklahoma. I was lucky enough to spend summers in Kenya with my family, including my grandmother, Nyakio. She taught me my first beauty secret when I was 8-years old: to use Kenyan coffee and sugarcane to exfoliate my skin. Those mem- ories and those passed down to me from my grandfather, a medi- cine man who extracted oils from fruits and nuts, were my biggest inspiration to create the Nyakio brand. When did you realize in your adult life that you wanted to launch this line? 57
