Coschem - Annual Report 2015 Coschem Annual Report 2019 | Page 8

It gives me great pleasure to write the Education Committee Annual report for 2019. The report presents the work and progress of the Education Committee in the execution of its duties and responsibilities to ensure the Coschem Cosmetic Course remains the most sought-after course by upholding the highest standards that has been set. To achieve this the committee has enormous task of reviewing and updating Course units to meet the current standards, ensure that suitable topics for assignments, product briefs are relevant, ensure that lecture delivery and exams are representative of the content. Cosmetic Science Course 2019 The Cosmetic Course continues to be the most sought-after course, this is evident on registration where the course still fills overnight. Thanks to the Committee for ensuring that South African Cosmetic Industry have access to a Course that is both relevant and current. 2019 intake was impressive as both Modules were full. Module 1 had 43 students- 20 Local and 23 Correspondence. Module 2 had a total of 21 students (10 Local and 11 correspondence). We continue to draw attention from students outside our borders-this year 2019 (under review) we had students from Namibia, Nigeria and Zimbabwe. We also had a student from America which just go a long way to show how the course has evolved over time and also manifest the highest level of expertise in delivery of Correspondence option. The Committee continues to stand firm on the level of education that the course offers, students are therefore urged to dedicate their time and effort accordingly. Along the way the course takes its toll on the students, by way of retracting for personal reasons and or simply realising that they can’t meet the exam criteria and therefore cannot continue further and for those who soldier on some are rewarded and some unfortunately do not meet the exam criteria (see discussion on results below). Those students who manage to finish we are confident that they are a great asset to the Industry. The Exams this year were written at three venues scattered across South Africa-mainly in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town and we had one venue in Nigeria. Of the initial 43 students in Module 1, 33 managed to meet the Exam criteria of those who wrote, 15 passed and seven managed to meet supplementary exam requirements and there were 11 fails. In Module 2 of the initial 21 students 14 managed to meet the Exam criteria 11 out of the 14 passed, one managed to meet the supplementary exam requirements and there were two fails. The overall exam results were not as good as last year in relation to the number of students passing but the overall quality of results for those who passed were excellent. In Module 1 we had one Distinction and a couple with 70%, the highest in Module 1 was 79%. In Module 2 we had two Distinctions 76% and 75% respectively and three students who were above 70%. Top Module 1 student was Yanishka Francis a correspondence student. Top Module 2- Jill Gardiner award was Emma Emmerich a local student. Feisal Jessub had the most or best creative presentation for the project and snapped the Creativity Award. The Norman Sanan award, which is for the best M2 Project was awarded to Jennifer Rogers who is a Local student. The achievements described in this report would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the Education Committee. Thank you to all Education Committee members and a special note of appreciation to my mentor Jill Gardner and Roy Gardner who left me in an excellent position to take over the well-oiled machine that I wish to keep intact. Thank you for the effort and hard work.
