IFSCC Report 2018
Roy Gardiner
2018 started off early with the Zone 1
meeting held in Amsterdam. Megan Jones
was asked to represent Coschem at the
meeting. She on behalf of Coschem advised
the meeting that South Africa was interested
in hosting a Congress in 2025. Thank you
Megan for your help. A lot of work needs
to be done by our council before the next
Zone 1 meeting in Paris in early April as the
French society has also offered to host a
Congress. In order to secure our bid to host
2025, a full presentation needs to be made
by a knowledgeable person who will
represent South Africa at this meeting.
The 30th IFSCC Congress was held in
Munich and attracted a total of 1094
delegates from 53 countries. There were
nearly 500 poster presentations which
completed the wealth of information
available to delegates. Congratulations
Juergen Lademann and the German society
for the successful Congress.
Coschem were fortunate enough to have
surplus funds and in line with our
constitution to provide members with an
opportunity to learn on an international
platform, thus we assisted Serina Sowman
to present a poster at this Congress. Serina
is a second year student of our Cosmetic
Science Diploma Correspondence Course
and a masters student at the University of
KwaZulu-Natal. This assistance not only
expands our members’ horizons but also
contributes to improving Coschem’s ranking
at the IFSCC. This is crucial in the bidding
process to host an IFSCC Congress.
Serina’s paper was entitled The Potential of
Plant Polyphenols as Notable Photostable
Sunscreen Actives.
