The Diploma is still very highly regarded in the
industry and definitely a very worthwhile string to
add to any cosmetic chemist’s bow. The course
material is updated annually to keep abreast of
the ever-changing cosmetic world in terms of
new developments and improved
ingredients and formulations.
We congratulate all those students from the
Class of 2017 who made it to the finish line -
we know just how much effort it took. It was a
tough year for the Module 1 students and only
one student managed to achieve a distinction.
Well done Melissa Govender your Exam results
were exemplary! For Module 2 there were two
distinctions, both students also achieving
exemplary Exam results. Well done Megan
Bennett and Sansha Coetzee.
All the students who received distinctions were
correspondence students, which makes us very
proud of our Unit notes, as this indicates that the
teaching and learning principles are well laid out
and documented. Thanks to each and every
person who has contributed and especially to
Roy Gardiner who spends endless hours
improving these unit notes to keep them at such
a high and current standard.
There are always those extra special students
that shine and qualify for the Special Awards.
The Top Module 1 student for 2017 was
Melissa Govender. The Jill Gardiner Award for
Top Module 2 student went to Megan Bennett.
The Norman Sanan Award for the best Module 2
Project also went to Megan Bennett. What else
can we say Megan, other than you have ruled
at the Cosmetic Science Diploma Course over
the last two years. Top student for two years in a
row, a distinction and the best Project – nothing
in small doses for you – well done! The Creativity
Award for the most creative Module 2
Presentation went to Christelene Visser – you
certainly let the imagination run wild. The P&C
Essay Award for the best Module 1 Assignment
went to Nikita Venter, who entertained the reader
with a lot of dirty talking about pollution meeting
cosmetics, this essay will be published in P&C
Review.
From my side, I have paid my dues with an extra
year as Education Officer, but it is time for me to
take a back seat as a mentor for the new
Education Officer who will take up office from
January 2018. Education is a special calling and
it is not always an easy task to find the right
person who shares that sentiment. However, I
believe that we have found that person in Kudzai
Gwazira and wish him all the best in his new
position.
Thanks to all the lecturers who give of their time
and expertise to facilitate lectures and provide
and mark exam questions. A special thanks to
those lecturers who have also taken the time to
provide updates to the unit notes.
Thanks to my unfailing Education Committee
who have helped me through this difficult year. I
am almost free to follow my dreams! I know that
the Education Committee is a strong principled
committee and that they will continue to uphold
the high standards of the Cosmetic Science
Diploma Course at all costs. They have the
mettle to deal with all the thorny issues and to
not set a precedence under any circumstance.
Soldier on as I disappear into the sunset
knowing that things have been left in very
capable hands. Thanks, and thanks again.
