Once ready, the coach will encourage the sailor to participate in Sunday afternoon racing where their coach will be on hand to observe and help them get the hang of racing on a course where other boats and classes are racing.
Once the sailor is ready to participate in Sunday afternoon Club racing on a regular basis and without on course coach support, they can simply enjoy the regular Sunday afternoon Club racing. If further development training is sought after they can pursue a third-party coaching provider to further develop their sailing.
It’ s not all about medals, glory and international recognition at this stage, it’ s just about having fun in a supportive and safe environment and allows for kids, youth and adult sailors to meet and become a community.
The Centreboard Dinghy Division is an active family-based community. Using supported international dinghy classes, there is an opportunity for the whole family to spend time on the water. Parents and kids can race alongside one another while other family members have the opportunity to spend time on the water by volunteering.
Regular racing and training is run in a highly professional manner without losing the family fun of a volunteer-based system.
The facilities and knowledge within the Club allow sailors to take their sailing to whatever level they desire. RPAYC’ s dinghy sailors have a long history of success on a state, national, and international level.
Racing at the Club takes place most Sundays throughout Summer, whilst the Ice Breaker Series provides regatta sailing once a month through Winter sailing.
The RPAYC has a strong focus on international one-design classes in its dinghy fleet. By following the Australian Sailing Youth Pathway, young sailors are afforded the best opportunity to progress their skills and challenge themselves.
