Founder's
Corner
Dear Friends of Cornerstone,
As I walk through the soup kitchen I can see and hear our clients talking some laughing, some reading and some playing games. Two new volunteers, Sue and Valerie offered to come in once a week to socialize with our clients. Often just sharing time is the greatest gift we can give.
I wish I could tell you that everything was great but I cannot. Just this past week we had two homeless Moms with children seeking shelter. Because our family shelter, the Clairvaux House is already filled to capacity we were not able accommodate them immediately. They were told to call 211. We pray they are able to find shelter, and our staff will continue to work with them to make sure they are in a safe environment.
Two young woman came to the kitchen seeking shelter. Knowing full well that there is a waiting list I had to tell them to call 211. The closing of the other area shelters has created a major problem.
Today a young man who I will call Tony, just came out of rehab came in to talk with me. He began to telling me his story. He had been in and out of prison for eighteen years. He said, because of his low self -esteem he began to drink and became a full fledged alcoholic. When he recently left rehab he fell into the trap again and began to drink and is homeless. He lost his wallet that contained all his personal information. His birth certificate, social security card and license.
After a long conversation he began to realize that his circumstances was caused by his decisions. It was like an awakening. He shared the plans that he wants to follow. Go to AA meetings, church and put his trust in God.
Please keep the homeless Mom’s and children, homeless individuals both men and woman, Tony and all the people like him in your prayers.
Please keep Cornerstone in your prayers.
Peace and Blessings,
