Dear Friends of Cornerstone,
Our newest ministry is helping with the Back Pack Program. This program helps feed the children on weekends who attend our schools and receive free lunches. Recently I had the privilege of helping fill the Back Packs for the children to take home. As I was filling them I thought how blessed this town is to have a group of people like the Vernon Hunger Action team who saw such a need and did something about it. Then I thought of the kids who on the weekends would not go hungry. I could not help but smile.
Not a day goes by that someone new comes to our soup kitchen and says “I’m hungry.” We at the soup kitchen serve hundreds of meals a week. Our food cupboard gives multiple bags of food such as milk, eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables to those in need. The Food Cupboard is open twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The Foodshare truck comes twice a month providing a variety of foods helping to meet the needs of those who are hungry. You would think there is not a hungry person within miles of Vernon-Rockville. Unfortunately someone is always knocking at the door looking for something to eat.
