Potluck Lunch
The numbers staying on after the service on the first Sunday of the month show
that the potluck lunches are a popular part of congregational life. As well as
providing the chance to talk to different people more deeply than at coffee time,
there is the element of delight and surprise in the food on offer. Sometimes it
is a simple lunch, with perhaps a salad, a piece of cheese and a slice of bread.
Other times it is a veritable feast, with people who spent the previo us day being
creative in the kitchen bringing all manner of delicious dishes to share. Two
things are certain – there is always more than enough for everyone, and Johnny
always impresses with his culinary skills, whether grilled aubergine salad with
rocket and pesto, huge bowls of fresh hummus or Ghanaian beans and rice.
At the recent meeting of team convenors, the subject of “hosting” the lunches
came up. All too often it is the same people who set up and clear away. So that
everyone can have a chance to “have a day off” and enjoy the fellowship, it was
decided that each of the teams would take it in turns to be responsible for the
setting up and clearing away for a lunch. Of course, people should still bring
food to share, and the “duty team” would appreciate help from others attend-
ing. So next time you stay for lunch, it would be great if you could lend a hand.
The next potluck, in December, will be hosted by the Outreach team – hope to
see you there!
