on mental health

Cork Boat Club is on a mission to become a club which promotes positive mental health for all our members by working towards achieving the Amber Flag, an award granted by Suicide Aware. Cork Boat Club will aim to actively encourage and promote the mental wellbeing of all our members by organising fun events, providing information to members and by creating a safe environment for all. Some of the events coming up in 2015 will include the following;

- Positive Mental Health day which will be organised by our junior members

- SafeTALK training for our coaches and parents to raise awareness of suicide

- Providing information on our website about positive mental health and available services.

- Actively promoting and addressing positive mental health at all levels within our club.

If you would like more information about this or would like to attend the SafeTALK contact Stephen Murphy or Deirdre Griffin.

*Defibrillator and CPR Course:*

Staff from the Red Cross provided a defibrillator and CPR course for members in the club recently. We now have 15 fully trained members in these life saving techniques. Our defibrillator is located at the back of the eastern boat bay near the stairs and gents changing room

A Tribute to "a Boat Club Giant"

Ger Healy was a man who held CBC very close to his heart and who had a place in the hearts of many at our club.When Ger sadly passed away earlier this year he was described as 'a legend', a 'boat club giant', a 'great, oarsman,coach and friend'. This is Ger's legacy and he will always be remembered as a true Cork Boat Club man. RIP Ger.
