irst division status was
at stake, in this the
first clash between
Glacis United and
Gibraltar United. Unlike the previous
scheduled match, rained off on the day
of the floods in Gibraltar, it was a glori-
ous sunny Sunday.
Even before a ball was kicked the
nerves could be felt through the silent
warm up of both teams. Neither could
afford the other to win, although a draw
would have suited Gibraltar United
more than Glacis.
Glacis started with a new keeper under
the posts, and man to man marking on
Montovio, even though they had the
early possession. Montovio was soon
rattled his short fuse got him an early
yellow within first five minutes as he
lunged into an unnecessary tackle.
The first fifteen was a nervy affair with
both teams showing they could reach
the other's end. A push in the Glacis
penalty area saw calls for a penalty ig-
nored. Something which would be
seen often in the next ten minutes as it
seemed Glacis received more calls in
Gibraltar United 1-0 Glacis United
Montovio (pen)
their favour.
Gibraltar United settled down faster
into the game and posed the greater
threat in the first half hour.
