n players
playing
hockey in
Spain has
been lifted, not that it was
actually enacted upon
anyway. The news came
as no surprise to many in
the hockey world who had
seen this type of action
happen before, only to see
Spanish policy turn around
later as the sporting world
united to challenge the
policies.
Most importantly, no one
person can take credit for
the turn-around, if there
was any. Yet there is much
to be content with. Little
politics was involved, few
political manifestations
were made, and the
situation was resolved by
sports not politics.
As Coresportgib reported
last week, Spanish clubs
and organisations directly
affected by the warnings
issued by the Spanish
hockey federation made
their own representations
challenging the policy and
asking for clarification. Two
clubs, in particular, wished
to know why the warnings
had been issued when the
federation itself had
accepted the registration of
Gibraltarian players into
their teams. This evident
by the mere fact that the
RFEH itself had listed
among the San Fernando
CH team players
Gibraltarian Gareth
Henwood as part of the
official registered team
players.
