Home to about 25% of all marine life (approximately 35,000 to 60,000 different types of organisms), these coral reefs are very important when it comes to sustaining biodiversity. However, as more and more coral reefs are destroyed, the more biodiversity is being decreased. As we continue to unhealthily warm up our waters through the release of Co2, acidification, burning of fossil fuels and pollution, this warm water and increased nutrients can be responsible for the growth of different kinds of harmful algae, which eventually end up destroying and killing the coral reefs15.
