Why you should care
First and foremost, coral reefs supply a home for many fish and coral species. these animals have a right to live just as humans have a right to live. How would you feel if a huge foot came and stmped on your home? Second, "reef fish and mollusks feed between 30 and 40 million people every year."(ICR) Also, Coral reefs are beneficial to the scientific community. According to the NOAA, "Many drugs are now being developed from coral reef animals and plants as possible cures for cancer, arthritis, human bacterial infections, viruses, and other diseases." The economic stability of many areas depends on the tourism that Coral Reefs bring in. For example the flordia key`s, "reefs alone are estimated to have an asset value of $7.6 billion" (NOAA)
