Coral reefs play a vital role in natural protection against currents, strong waves, and storms. They serve as a natural protector against the damage of property, life, and they prevent erosion. As more and more coral reefs are destroyed, the more an area is subject to all of these natural phenomenons and their disastrous effects12.

Healthy coral reefs also provide a lot of income for many nations. Local communities make billions of dollars due to tourism. People from all over have the desire to experience this beautiful part of our world. Through diving tours, recreational fishing, and many other businesses, coral reefs are responsible for providing many communities and regions with their income. According to the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, In Hawaii alone, tourism connected to reefs attracted an estimated 6.7 million visitors and generated $11.4 billion in 200417. As coral reefs become destroyed, many nations will continue to lose revenue, much of which supports many developing countries.
