DESTROYED CORAL REEF

Coral reef destruction causes a loss of natural costal protection. Coral reefs are located near sea level land, which is at high risk for flooding. Coral reefs provide a natural barrier from storms, high tides, and wind and slow water before it reaches the shore.5 Where coral reefs were destroyed, it cost about $10 million dollars per kilometer to build a wall that would serve the same purpose as the coral reefs.6
