FISHING PRACTICES
In some parts of the world, it is common to fish in and around coral reefs using tools such as dynamite to kill fish, and sodium cyanide to stun them to collect them for sale as aquarium fish. Dynamite fishing differs from the traditional and more sustainable methods of line and net fishing in that it kills all of the fish in the entire area and destroys the coral itself.
These destructive fishing practices have grown out of a global increase in the demand for fish. As populations in developing countries grow, fishermen must find a way to meet demand. (Aquatek)
