Claudia Metrodora

It was very unique for women in Ancient Rome to have political power - but it was even more unique when they were able to access politics without a husband . Not because they weren ’ t capable of it , but because they were simply never given a chance . Claudia Metrodora , a Graeco-Roman priestess and benefactor was one such case in which a woman achieved political power without the help of her husband . As a resident of the Greek island Chios ue , Metrodora held multiple different political offices and paid out-of-pocket for city expenses . Public meals and public baths were all paid by her . She was also the president of several religious festivals . Some residents of Chios credited her kindness and strength to her worship of Aphrodite Livia . She was a beloved figure all throughout her life , and she serves as an example for other women of what possibilities wait for them outside of marriage and domestic duties .
