CONSTITUTION & BYLAW AMENDMENTS

VOTING RIGHTS ACT

Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT)introduced legislations to strengthen the Voting Rights Act of 1965 in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision last June invalidating a critical section of the VRA. The legislation, known as “The Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014,” represents the first attempt by a bipartisan group in Congress to reinstate the vital protections of the VRA that the Supreme Court took away.

Virginia is going to be a big deal on this issue because Rep. Bob Goodlatte (VA-6) is chairman of the powerful House Judiciary Committee.

These laws don't only negatively affect minorities but also students voting on campus, seniors and poorer Americans.

As chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Rep. Goodlatte can prevent this legislation from being enacted. He needs to know that Virginians are demanding this legislation.

Join other young leaders from the state in telling Rep. Goodlatte to support HR 3899 and pass it quickly.
