It is considered a regional center, drawing shoppers and clients from all around the Middle Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, and North Alabama areas. The upscale development grew around the Cool Springs Galleria shopping mall, which first opened to the public in August 1991. The area has since expanded to encompass land on both sides of Interstate 65 and includes several luxury hotels, strip malls, business parks, office buildings, big box retailers, low- rise apartments, condominiums, and restaurants. The Cool Springs area is home to many major companies including Healthways, Nissan North America, MedSolutions, Community Health Systems and Tasti D-Lite.
