The Kickoff Dolphins kick to the Patriots, he takes it from the one yard line—10, 20, 30; he breaks outside, avoids a tackle—45, 50. “Heeee could go all the wayyyyy.” Dolphins 30, 20, 10, 5—touchdown! Patriots are at 7, Dolphins 0. Just then, the ribs began to repeat on him. “Hey, we still have time,” he says as he turns to his buddy. By the end of the 3rd quarter, it’s Patriots 27, Dolphins 0. He can’t believe it. Final score: Patriots 35, Dolphins 0. He mopes back to the truck, grabs a cold rib, and realizes he has a big mess to clean up, and his Dolphins just lost big. He loads up the truck and heads home. He arrives home, walks through the door, and is greeted with “Hi, honey, how was the game? Did you have fun?” He looks at her and wonders how she could be so happy. “Did they win?” she asks. “No,” he replies. “I’m sorry. Is there anything I can do for you?” He stops for a minute and thinks, “Wow, what a woman.” He begins to clean up and thinks of all he did to get ready for the game and all the money he spent when they didn’t even score. 56 She senses his disappointment, comes over, and gives him a big hug and a kiss and says, “You still have me to come home to; besides, they could win next week.” It’s Saturday night; the Dolphins play the Jets tomorrow. They order a pizza and there’s anxiousness in the air; she senses it. He lights the candles, opens the wine, turns on the music, and leans over and whispers, “Plain or with pepperoni?” “I’ll be back in a few,” she whispers. She returns wearing a Dolphin jersey and nothing else. He pours the wine, she throws a pass, and it’s complete! 10, 20, 30; he makes a move to the inside. “Heeee could go all the wayyyyyy.” He scores! “Beep, beep, beep.” The alarm goes off the next morning. “Good morning, honey,” she whispers. “You going to the game?” “Not today,” he replies. “I’m going to have a tailgate party right here, with you, and watch the game on TV.” She smiles, and he thinks, “If they don’t score, I know I will.” 57
