Cooch Behar Chronicles 2013 Issue | Page 5

note from the ed...

Hi there! With great pleasure I present to you the very first issue of CoB Chronicles.

First things first: Thank you for choosing to spend your precious time reading this– I know there are plenty of other things you could be doing right now on the internet– watching that cute kitten video on YouTube, Tweet-ing a photo of your lunch or Facebook-stalking that new crush, but instead, you chose to read this!

Seems like yesterday when I was sitting in the living room of my Bromsgrove flat and day dreaming about this lovely heritage town of ours– Cooch Behar, and I thought, if only we had more online presence people living away from home would find a way to stay connected. And just then the proverbial light bulb glowed right above my head.

I thought- “how about a community magazine?” It can have contents from community volunteers and info about all things CoB . I quickly opened a notepad and frantically started typing ideas. Having worked with a similar magazine called Moseley B13 , in the UK, I felt I knew just about enough to pull this off. I laid out the basic idea, the sections we can have and got in touch with people I thought might be able to help... and after three months of hard work here we are today…

Flip through the pages of this Summer 2013 issue and let us take you through the royal (and rather fashionable) history of Cooch Behar, describe the gruesome festival of Charak Puja, tell you about the places you must visit when in CoB and finally what is worth borrowing from your local library and the films worth watching in the movie theatre.

I hope you enjoy reading this as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.
