Palatino was designed in 1948 by Hermann Zapf, a prolific type
designer and notable writer on type. Palatino Roman was first cut by
hand and cast in metal at the Stempel Foundry, then adapted by Zapf
for the Linotype machine. Palatino is based on Renaissance forms and
is a superbly balanced, powerful, and graceful font.
