The Implant An implant is a device that is fitted into a woman's arm. It releases hormones slowly into the blood stream which prevent pregnancy. The uterine lining does not thicken enough to support a fertilised egg, and the cervical mucus thickens so that it is less accommodating to the sperm. The implant was first invented in the 1960s and has been re-developed multiple times to make it as effective as possible. (Fpa.org.uk 2010) (Funbuzztime.com 2015)
