Vaginal Ring The vaginal Ring has been studied since the 1970s but became available in 2009. (Fpa.org.uk 2010) The vaginal Ring works a bit like the pill, except you insert it into the vagina. It stays inside the vagina for 21 days and releases oestrogen and progesterone in order to prevent ovulation and thicken the cervical mucus. After 21 days, you take it out and throw it away. You have your period, and then insert another new one for 21 days again. (Funbuzztime.com 2015)
