The progestogen-only pill
The progesterone-only pill is very
similar to the combined pill but
does not contain oestrogen. It also
is taken every day with no pill gap.
It thickens the cervical mucus
disallowing sperm to pass, and
therefore prevents pregnancy.
Some progesterone only pills
prevent ovulation as well, whereas
others don't. This pill was also
developed in the 1960s.
