BCOT PREPARING THE OFFICERS OF TOMORROW
For five weeks , Cadets go through rigorius training to become Correctional Officers with the Georgia Department of Corrections ( GDC ). The Georgia Corrections Academy , Basic Correctional Officer Training ( BCOT ) is a mandated training course for all Correctional Officers required by Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training ( POST ). All Correctional Officers must complete 40 hours of firearms training , ten practical exams and seven written tests to become Peace Officer certified . BCOT assists Correctional Officers in better preparing themselves to perform and accomplish the mission of protecting the public while operating secure facilities and providing offender rehabilitation . Becoming a Correctional Officer is just the beinging . The GDC offers career paths for all staff member to continuesly increase their knowledge and skill set . By doing so , staff members are able to advance through the ranks .
