DEFINITELY IN HIGSON “ When you’re writing about something that has a strong fantasy element, it is particularly effective to set events firmly in the real world.” In this instance, actor, comedian and writer Charlie Higson invented an imaginary school called Rowhurst, but based it on memories of being at Sevenoaks in the 1970s. So if you’d like to see the school through Charlie’s eyes as it was then, read The Dead. It’s the second in his series for young adults, The Enemy. “ The geography (of Rowhurst) is roughly the same as the real school and I’m sure current students will find bits familiar.
