We have good reason to believe that in the 1770s,

this boy from China attended Sevenoaks School. His benefactor was John Frederick Sackville, third Duke of Dorset, and his name was Huang Ya Dong. A portrait painted by Joshua Reynolds hangs at Knole and the British Museum holds this engraving.
Today, Chinese nationals are still making their way here, as are students with roots in all these countries:
