And yes, that is a victory that warrants pride. But overcoming can encompass any range of events, external or internal. We’re not always perceptive to the idea that women we pass on a daily basis are in the midst of overcoming. We don’t typically see others overcoming self doubt, jealousy, or difficult choices. But to overcome is still powerful, and if we can acknowledge this—if we can acknowledge what we don’t know and stand together to validate others’ adversity— then perhaps we will better overcome the struggles that haunt ourselves.
