NETWORK RAIL - BRIDGE REPLACEMENT , SHIELD ROAD
One of Glasgow ’ s most heavily trafficked bridges has reopened , marking the culmination of a £ 12.6 million upgrade project .
Led by Network Rail and its contractor , Story Contracting , the Shields Road bridge , which has been under a weight restriction for 25 years , has undergone a complete reconstruction that will enhance safety , usability , and longevity .
The ambitious project began ib early 2024 with the demolition of the old bridge over the Easter period . The project saw the new bridge deck craned into position , parapets ( side walls ) installed , and overhead line equipment replaced beneath the structure . Engineers then reconnected
