Conservation Outreach Manual Campaign Manual FINAL

CONSERVATION OUTREACH MANUAL TIPS FOR BUILDING PUBLIC AWARENESS Contents: Introduction E nvironmental awareness campaigns should aim for the heart. Through emotions, culture and positive messages, they should provoke a lasting connection with nature and a desire to preserve it. In the Caribbean, some of the most successful campaigns have partnered with music, dance, cultural ambassadors, poetry, and art in order to transform how people interact with and respect their natural resources. This manual is intended to help marine resource managers, agencies and organizations plan impactful awareness activities. It provides an overview of key concepts in communications, with examples to guide the reader through the development and implementation of community outreach programs. The manual was produced by The Nature Conservancy based on best practices from a successful awareness campaign implemented across six Eastern Caribbean islands. The project is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) funded by The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) based on a decision adopted by the German Bundestag.
