There comes many moments in everybody's life when they're faced with a life changing decision. If you're aware of them when they occur, they can be painless things, leaving a feeling, a chill or even a spontaneous instant reaction; like stepping out of the way of a projectile object or an arm stretching across your chest when you have to stop abruptly in a vehicle, or even just deciding which streets to take home to alter, what some say, are an infinite number of possible outcomes.
It seems that we're faced with these situations quite often in our day-to-day lives, yet rarely are we aware of them. It seems less rare, or maybe something we're just not aware of, when we encounter a situation where our direct actions can make a large impact on someone else's destiny. It's even rarer to find someone willing to interfere with injustice or unfair odds for the sake of others, and a stranger at that. This was the case with a man named Angaboo.
About three-thousand years ago, in the land of Sheba (Saba in Hebrew, Angaboo became aware of the scheduled sacrifice of a young child. He felt he had to make a decision whether to interfere with this child's destiny or to allow it to continue toward its surely bloody and senseless demise. He may not have known it at the time, but he decided to rescue one of the wisest and most legendary women the world has ever known…Mekeda, the Queen of Sheba.
Sheba was the land that stretched throughout most of modern-day Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan and into parts of Saudi Arabia. For many decades it was ruled by an order of virgin queens that would take a husband when ready to reproduce. This Queendom was ruled with compassion and grace. Mekeda (meaning "greatness" in Amharic) was considered the wisest of them all. In the Hebrew text, she is Balkis, in the Qur’an, she is called Biliqis. She has been written about over and over again, in many, many lands, as those of legend usually are. Some of these legends are really far-fetched and almost comical; while others portray her as mean and wicked. Propaganda certainly isn't a new thing, and I think you all know it usually comes from fear. Nobody that was alive then can give us any information on the truth of her, so I will share with you what I have come to understand of this legendary woman.
Mekeda was born in 1020 bce. There is little known of her childhood except her fate fell into the hands of an altruist King Angaboo. Mekeda was to be sacrificed to The Serpent God. This serpent God was not someone Angaboo feared, for he took its sacrificial offering away and brought the young girl home to his wife, Queen Ismenie,
