Tokelau islands shift to 100% solar energy
Tokelau has become the first territory able to meet all its electricity needs with solar power, officials say.
The South Pacific territory - comprising the three atolls of Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo - had been dependent on diesel to generate electricity.
"The Tokelau Renewable Energy Project is a world first. Tokelau's three main atolls now have enough solar capacity, on average, to meet electricity needs,"

Happy families are the key to a good life, new Australian research reports
On 24 February 2013 The Independent reported: Happy families are the key to a good life, accordingly to new research reported in the Journal of Happiness Studies. Men and women involved in the study were asked to imagine themselves being 85 and near the end, and to rank the 30 things they regarded as important for a good, worthwhile life. Gaining wisdom and living a moral life were both in the top 10 requirements for a worthwhile life, and were rated as being more important than being respected. 'We focused on conceptions of a good life, or what people think will make their lives worthwhile,' said Dr Gregory Bonn, a lecturer in psychology at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, who led the study.
Why organic produce may be worth the money
Organic fruits and vegetables may not be as big and beautiful as regular produce, but appearances can be deceiving. A study of organic tomatoes found they are packed with a much higher concentration of healthy compounds than the conventionally grown variety. And that suggests being smaller and less attractive can sometimes be better for you. 'The contents in phenolic compounds and in vitamin C were 139 per cent and 55 per cent higher, respectively. That is quite a lot,' one of the researchers, Laurent Urban of the University of Avignon in France, said.
