WELCOME

EDUCATOR WELL-BEING

To celebrate CSEE ’ s 125th anniversary , we ’ ve been sharing something new with the independent school community each month . This month , we released our new book Reframing Self-Care for Independent School Faculty .

I have been working with amazing thinkers on this topic for a few years now . They have come at well-being for educators by way of insightful , divergent methods . From the start , we all agreed that well-being cannot just be moments of escape . Rest is obviously an important component of well-being , but well-being needs to be more than “ getting away .” Rest is a time-out ; well-being should also be thought of as active “ time-in .”
Well-being flows out of an ability to be fulfilled in the midst of the busyness and the complexity of what we do . It includes such things as
• being in an environment where I can reveal and be enough of who I am to feel safe and at home
• being busy and challenged but having enough support to not feel overwhelmed by those realities
• doing work that may not be easy--but is fulfilling and purposeful .
The authors in this issue of Connections explore different ways to increase educator wellness , especially in light of different roles and demands at a school . We hope you find a tool in these pages to increase your own well-being . •
