By continuing to learn from our experiences and from people who have recovered successfully from painful , even tragic experiences , we can become more mission-focused , emotionally resonant , strategic leaders .
Recently , Grant also wrote about how we can find “ post-COVID happiness ” through what he calls “ collective effervescence ,” by which he means “ the sense of energy and harmony people feel when they come together in a group around a shared purpose .” At my school , as the leadership team looks toward bringing students , faculty , and families together for the next school year , we are anticipating the collective effervescence we ’ ll feel in informal , impromptu interactions , in morning greetings with students and colleagues , and in assemblies , concerts , and strategy sessions . We are finding

joy in the humanity and virtue of our interdependence . And we are — joyfully — intent on inspiring trust throughout the school community .

Mark Davis came to St . Luke ’ s in 2002 from Phillips Exeter Academy where he was Director of College Counseling . Before going to Exeter , he worked at The Taft School for 17 years , serving in a variety of capacities including history teacher , Assistant Director of Admissions , Class Dean , varsity baseball coach , and Director of College Counseling .
New Online Event : Navigating Divisiveness • October 29 , 2021
From politics to diversity to health standards , schools are dealing with extreme views and intolerance . John Palfrey , MacArthur Foundation Executive Director and author of Safe Spaces , Brave Spaces , will present on how schools can navigate these situations . He will be followed by a panel of Heads and a panel of DEIB directors . This three hour event will also include time for small group discussion .
