nited Ag received its first tow of liquid fertilizer into its Port of Victoria facility on October
2, 2013. The tow, consisting of two 3,000-ton
barges pushed by the 2,000 horsepower M/V
Salvation, arrived at the Port of Victoria turning basin in
the early morning hours.
The journey consisted of more than 430 miles of “West
Canal” Intercoastal Waterways — navigating through
five sets of locks, a set of flood gates and a couple of open
bays. The M/V Salvation’s crew dealt with almost every
navigational challenge one could think of: the heavy
barge traffic and swift currents of the Mighty Mississippi
River, recreational boaters who sometimes have little
regard for commercial traffic and maneuvering around
the ocean-going v
