Investing in Mission Y ou may not be able to travel as a missionary to foreign lands. You may not have the skills to physically help construct an academy or church. But if you invest in the Southern Union Revolving Fund (SURF) you can help build God’s Kingdom. Currently, nearly 2000 investors have chosen to invest their funds in SURF. It is an investment where the greatest immediate reward is the knowledge that you have partnered with God and fellow Christians in ministry. Additionally, the financial reward is receiving an interest rate higher than most banks are currently paying. SURF provides low interest loans to churches and denominational entities for building projects such as construction, acquisitions, and renovation within the Southern Union territory. Currently 14 (fourteen) churches in the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference have their building and property purchase loans through SURF. There are three advantages of churches and entities having their loans through SURF: 1) There are no payments of points or paying of fees for the privilege of borrowing money; 2) Lower interest—the current rate of interest for loans is 3.25%; 3) Shorter loan processing times than with a bank. A church may borrow up to a maximum of four times its average annual tithe. You can be part of this unique and exclusive ministry. It is open to any member as well as organizations that are affiliated with our conference. Interest is compounded monthly and paid quarterly if your balance is above $10,000. A minimum of $1,000 is PLAN NING FOR THE all that is needed to open up an account. Investors in SURF have continually appreciated the safety of their funds. Debt obligations of SURF are unsecured obligations of the Southern Union Revolving Fund, Inc. and are not secured by a pledge or mortgage of specific assets. Nevertheless, local conferences guarantee all loans, and various other criteria designed to reduce default risk are in place. However, even with the safety of SURF investments, investors are reminded that any investment comes with a certain amount of risk. Dynamic speakers and breakout workshops will emphasize how to (1) revitalize existing churches, (2) plant new churches, and (3) reach communities for Christ. Speakers include: Raquel Gillham, Stewart Lozensky, Errol McLean, Abraham Acosta Newball, Jeff Potts, and Anthony WagenerSmith. If you want to see your church get off dead center and throttle into “high gear,” please come with a team of elders and lay leaders. While this conference is primarily for pastors and elders, you can also attend if you are a lay evangelist or church planter. Due to popularity of the conference and logistics of limited lodging, spouses will NOT be able to attend unless they are directly engaged in church revitalization or church planting. Priority will be given to those who register first, so please get your registration in early by contacting Marjie Noll in the Ministerial Department (615-859-1391). The absolute deadline for registration is April 4. BY DAVID HARTMAN Ministerial Director Kentucky-Tennessee Conference 11
