Welcome Students!
Welcome students! It was exciting to be a part of welcoming in the class of 2020 to the campuses a few
weeks ago. It’s hard to believe we are well on our way into fall, and I hope you all had a great summer.
This year, UCU started a new annual scholarship program to provide eight $1,000 scholarships to
students attending each of the seven University of Maine campuses as well as to Maine Maritime
Academy. Recently, we were pleased to announce the recipients and would invite you to learn more
about them on our website. Congratulations to the winners, and we are proud of all the applicants
starting their college journey. We look forward to our next scholarship application season in the spring.
Recently we were pleased to celebrate our completed Farmington branch renovations with a grand reopening event on September 7th. This project was three years in the making and now provides driveup ability for our members as well as additional parking for the branch. While parking in Farmington is
always at a premium, the drive-up addition is sure to be a welcomed member benefit for transactions
without the need to leave your vehicle as the temperatures get colder.
Another feature I wanted to mention was our First Time Homebuyer Classes with HomeWorks. We’ve
held two so far this fall, and we have two more on October 7 and 8 in Westbrook and November 12
and 13 in Bangor. Each class is two days long and provides the attendees excellent information on the
home buying process as well as making them eligible for a certificate for the $3,500 MSHA Advantage
Program to apply to closing costs. More information about the classes can be found on our website
where you can also register to attend.
And lastly, if you haven’t noticed the recent changes in payment options at UCU, I wanted
to add that we now have the ability for our members to use Apple Pay, Android Pay and
Samsung Pay with our debit and credit cards. Many UCU members have already taken
advantage of enrolling their cards on these various payment systems. If you haven’t, we
invite you to consider adding your UCU debit or credit card to your digital wallet.
While 2016 has been a good year, we are already looking forward to 2017 which is quickly approaching.
We are especially excited about the upcoming year because UCU will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.
