CDABP Contractor Feature

Birdi & Associates does it all! The IT consulting and maintenance specialists founded by Moninder Birdi in 2006 has a foothold in many areas, including IT tech consulting, security, systems design, software development, installation, technical support, maintenance and support.

After Birdi learned about CDABP through an outreach program, he enrolled. This led to the opportunity to bid on a $3,200,000 contract with LAWA posting $180,000 collateral. He was awarded the contract — the start of several contracts awarded with the help of CDABP collateral and services over the past six years. “When we started, without the collateral we wouldn’t be able to bond,” said Birdi. “So we looked to be a subcontractor instead, however, as any contractor knows, that has its own issues, not to mention adding expense and red tape for the client with the program, we are able to win Prime contracts in the areas where we are experts.”

Birdi encourages all interested contractors to use the program to their advantage —especially when they are just starting out and think they can’t get bonding. “A lot of people don’t understand the bonding process as well as they should.” He says don’t be afraid to ask, recalling a time when he had an issue with a three-year term contract. He reached out to CDABP, who talked to the client. They adjusted the contract so his company could bond. “Approach CDABP and ask for their help and support,” he says. “They will find ways.”

Today, his company is booming, with 60 employees and part of an in-demand field with no signs of abating. Birdi is now focusing on growing his reputation in Southern California as a mid-sized engineering consulting and contracting firm as well planting roots around the rest of the country. Currently, he is working on a project with a bonding prerequisite of $5.7 million. “The Contractor Development And Bonding Program has opened many doors,” he says.
