# BetterTogether on social media
Social media is a powerful tool that can be used for inspiration and learning . We love seeing and sharing messages of achievement , encouragement and grit .
Because social media posts have both immediate and lasting impacts , we include lessons in the curriculum to teach students how to engage in social media safely and responsibly . Our goal is for every child to have a bright future with nothing that could negatively impact future college admission and job employment , or create a criminal history .
With concerning behaviors trending on social media , like recent theft and vandalism-focused TikTok challenges , we encourage you to partner with us and talk with your children about safe social media use . Please emphasize that what is posted exists forever and can be viewed and shared by others . Posts including destructive and harmful behaviors could result in serious , long-term consequences . Our priority is to provide and maintain a safe , effective and healthy learning environment . Please encourage your student always to be respectful of their peers , staff members and school property .
We stand ready to offer support and resources . View our
Digital Citizenship Guidelines for Families webpage for helpful information . If you have additional questions or concerns , please do not hesitate to get in touch with your campus . We are # BetterTogether , and look forward to continuing to celebrate GISD ’ s greatness with you online and beyond .
