Natatorium close to opening doors Garland ISD will soon open the doors to one of the finest aquatic centers in the state. The district’s taxpayer-approved natatorium is on the brink of its debut, reaching a long-awaited milestone. “It is thrilling to see the progress on the natatorium. We are close to completion on the Myrtha paneling and liner—this means that we should be adding water soon,” said Aquatic Manager Philip Wiggins. “I cannot wait to see water in the pool.” With an anticipated opening in the fall, the final phase of construction includes installing locker rooms, offices, bleachers, as well as lighting, pump and chemical systems. Finishing touches also involve completing the front entrance and incorporating curb appeal with scenic landscaping. “I am most excited for the opportunities the natatorium will provide for our students and district,” Wiggins stated. “I miss my current students and look forward to not only having them back, but also all of the new students who will join us in the fall.” With the induction of its newest facility, GISD will boast swimming and diving teams at every high school, as well as a water safety program for second graders. “I want to thank everyone who has helped and continues to help with every aspect of the natatorium. It takes a lot of people from across the district to prepare for the completion and opening of this grand facility.” Keep up with the natatorium’s development at garlandisdbond.com. GISD announces District Teachers and Paraprofessionals of the Year With a staff of more than 7,500 employees, Garland ISD is fortunate to have many teachers and paraprofessionals who ensure the best education for all students. The district’s annual Teacher and Paraprofessional of the Year awards program recognizes those who go above and beyond. Co-workers first nominate their peers for the honor, and then a selection committee chooses Campus and Division winners. After an application process, districtwide titles are announced.
