Many people go through things in life that no one should ever have to go
through. Things like: domestic violence, sexual assault and abuse. Verbal and
emotional abuse is something people tend to overlook sometimes. However, it's
time to speak out and shine a light into a dark corner of this world. It happens
everywhere, in every country.
“Silenced” by Marsi Stone, it speaks about emotional and physical abuse, and how
the woman is finally done with it all, done with giving her abuser second chances.
She is ready to be free from it all.
JJ Essen’s Song “The Door” is about a girl who is blind to what real love is. She
assumes that being abused is because of things she is doing and that it's ok. Her
friend is trying to show her that real love has nothing to do with being harmed.
She tells her that she is not alone and does not have to be scared, but that she also
does not deserve to be treated the way she is being treated.
Hellyeah “Hush” song was written by the singer Chad Gray as a way to shine a
light on childhood violence that he himself experienced while he was growing
up. It’s about being physically and emotionally abused, and wanting to fight
back inside, but on the outside the fear is real.
One song I can never forget is the song by Christina Aguilera called “Beautiful”.
Not all abuse is physical. A lot of abuse is verbal and emotional. Wounds heal in
time but the emotional side of abuse stays with a person. It is not always easy to
rise above the abuse nor easy to forget. This song talks about seeing yourself from
a different side of it all and helping others to feel empowered.
“Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson. Many times when people are abused, they
lose their trust in other people. This song talks about not being able to
trust. How a person’s heart cannot even break when it wasn’t fully whole to
begin with because of abuse in their past. It even takes it a step further by looking
at the impact abuse can have on a child who witnesses it in their home.
