There are many VLEs available to help teachers make these tasks easier – from free offerings such as Google Classroom and Edmodo that teachers can easily set up and use, Moodle, (which can be challenging to use well), and other paid options such as Firefly or Canvas or specialist systems such as Managebac.
We currently have around a dozen different types of VLEs in use across all the Nord Anglia schools, used in a wide variety of ways across our network.
We are in the process of looking at how we can improve the way Nord Anglia as a whole makes use of VLEs. We aim to make use of our scale to find the best VLE providers to set up in the schools and work with teachers and school management to provide tools to make your work easier. In short, we want to do the technical part of setting up the systems to allow teachers to concentrate on using the tools to make a difference in the classrooms. We are aiming at avoiding a one-size-fits-all solution, but rather to give the schools a flexible offering along with support and training to make use of the tools effectively. We are aiming to start developing soon, and to roll out in schools from early 2019.

Do you use your school VLE? Have you thought about how to get the most out of it or how it can help your and your students interact? There are lots of ideas about online technologies and online learning available through the Learning Technologies community on NAU and also some courses you can take as well.
